sound.of.music

it's still dark when you woke up to the sound of music. an unusual early morning. you have to get up to catch your flight to vienna. no, you are not here for work. you are off for the rest of the week. you are going to enjoy your holiday, even it is a short one, a city trip.
you haven't fully done with your read up but you will be fine, just follow youth instinct, no specific agenda. well, besides two museums that you want to visit.
you are going to lost in the city, lost in time and just indulge yourself in what the city could offer.
writing this, you are in the air, south east bound for vienna, a land and a city full of the tales of princess sisi. and the morning has finally broken.

an early start means you arrived early.. you make your way to the hotel, too early to check in, so you left your luggage and rock the city. much to your surprise museum quarters is just a stone throw away, there are 3 museums to choose from. but you will save the best for the last or rather save your backyard to the last.

you're too busy with your work to do your background reading, he also didn't had the chance and coming back from Asia and almost straight on to vienna.

but you heard of the famous coffee and cake culture. so the first stop is to check out demel. you heard of cafe sacher too, but you don't want to dwell in the war of sachertorte.

you just want to enjoy your lunch and dwell in the lovely konditorei. you ordered a goulash soup, keeping your lunch light so that you can indulge in a piece of cake later.

your vienna melange is a lovely brewed cup of cappuccino like coffee. there're layers of taste and complexity. almost like a wine tasting experience.

your goulash soup is great too, a taste that you can recognize based on your budapest experience.

his vienna sausage, two one foot long sausage. It's delicious with almost crunchy membrane and the spicy horseradish and mustard sauce.
all dishes are great, and you have been enjoying the light blue wedge wood like salon with chandelier hanging on top of you.
you're spoil for choice when it comes to cakes... yet you chose the (in)famous sachertorte

he has a black forest cake,  the black forest is heavenly, light, airy, with the lovely fragrance of kirsch.
you sachertorte is dry old fashion cake.  you should have known this as you had the same experience in cafe new york in budapest. either it is over rated by the media or the standard is based on an ancient method. it's purely a dry cake with sweet apricot jam and chocolate ganache.
having said this, the lunch is an relaxing experience with people watching, and taking time to observe the various rooms with different characters and an action pack cake baking section for tourist to see the production of cakes.

you walked out totally satisfied with your vienna melange, goulash soup minus the sacher torte. while he is happy with everything he had.
and you have the energy to check out the habsburg empress sisi apartment just in the city center. but that will be another story.
